While searching for quality bloggers and content creators for my work at TokCloud, I almost forgot to add James Altucher. Despite reading his articles almost every day, he didn't pop to my mind as a blogger. A mentor maybe? A person that I can relate, understand and gain knowledge from? Maybe... So to make up for forgetting him, the first in a series of posts about the best and the brightest content creators we've come up with, is for you James.
A person that has done so many things and has taken so many different roles in his life had to be interesting and he indeed is. Has worked in the IT department of HBO, tried to do his own web show by interviewing prostitutes, sold his companies Reset Inc. and StockPickr both for $10 million, failed in other ventures, missed the opportunity to invest in Google early, lost all his money several times, traded for Hedge funds and served as Managing Director of Formula Capital,an asset management firm. He writes his popular blog, guest articles at TechCrunch, Yahoo! Finance, the WSJ, used to be a weekly columnist at the Financial Times among other things. Oh, let's not forget he is a published and (proudly) self-published author with more than 10 books including the critically acclaimed I was blind and now I see and Choose yourself.
When a friend suggested Altucher's blog, I didn't have the tiniest clue about what I would discover. In a really difficult time emotionally for me, I found someone who could help, who had been through some of the most terrifying scenarios and issues, who had huge problems, but overcame them and is now sharing his experiences and recipes to happiness. James Altucher is a huge surprise that will leave you wanting to read more and more of his articles and lists! His style may seem a bit funny and exaggerating but the spot-on sarcasm, the lessons in each story (no matter how irrelevant it seems) and the general optimism in his writing style really make him stand out. Although he comes from a tech and financial background Altucher has moved to another level and his articles are more about life philosophy and choices making him a perfect read for a much wider audience.
Of course, not mentioning his wife Claudia Altucher would be like not telling his whole story. It's something that James does not forget to do in most of his own posts. Claudia as you would expect is as interesting and deserves her own post but that's one for the future. If you do read Altucher's blog you'll stumble to many articles about her and even articles devoted to her.
The most difficult part of this post is selecting a few articles that can give you a sample but I'll try my best:
